• Recent findings show that mental health struggles have become nearly universal among California’s youth, with 94% reporting ongoing challenges—up from 87% the previous year—and one‑third describing their mental health as only “fair” or “poor.” Nicole Stelter, behavioral health director at Blue Shield of California, notes that young people are being heavily impacted by issues like performance anxiety, safety concerns, and social media pressures, emphasizing the need for clinicians, educators, policymakers, and supportive adults to take this youth mental health crisis seriously (Blue Shield of California & Children Now, 2024).
