Why Silicon Valley Families Are Choosing Private BCBA Therapy

You wouldn't hand your company's product roadmap to an entry-level hire fresh out of a two-week onboarding. So why would you hand your child's developmental progress to one?
Silicon Valley parents are used to setting the bar high. Surrounded by the standards of Apple, Google, Tesla, Meta, and Nvidia, you don't settle for "good enough" in how you build products, run teams, or raise your family. When a child needs developmental or behavioral support, that same instinct kicks in: find the best, not the most convenient, because going with the best option often ends up being what’s convenient in the long run.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the gold-standard, evidence-based practice for building the communication, social, academic, and adaptive skills every child deserves (Max & Lambright, 2022). But here's what most parents don't realize: how therapy is delivered varies enormously — and that variance can make or break your child's progress. BlackRock Behavior Group was founded to close that gap, offering a luxurious alternative to the traditional ABA agency model: direct, 1:1 care exclusively from a Master's-level Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
What does that mean?
You will never have a revolving door of technicians, and I mean NEVER. Here's what the research actually says, and why it matters for your child.
Your Child Deserves the Expert, Not the Trainee
In most clinical and school-based ABA programs, the person actually in the room with your child every day is a paraprofessional or Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). While many amazing and competent RBTs can provide your child with some of the most EFFECTIVE therapy, the hard truth is that it’s often someone with minimal training before their first session (Max & Lambright, 2022). Add chronic turnover and staffing shortages, and agencies are often forced to place whoever's available, not whoever's the right fit for your child (Max & Lambright, 2022). Do you really want your child’s therapy to consist of rotating strangers showing up to your house? I doubt it, but let's think about this in a school setting.
Schools have it worse. 65.3% of school-based behavior analysts provide zero direct 1:1 service to students. Yes, you read that correctly: ZERO THERAPY. They're spread across an average of 14.2 schools, consulting remotely while classroom aides handle the actual intervention (Layden et al., 2024).
At BlackRock Behavior Group, there is no hand-off. Becoming a BCBA requires a Master's degree, graduate-level coursework, and 1,500–2,000 hours of supervised fieldwork (Kodak et al., 2023; Layden et al., 2024). That expertise is what shows up for every single session — sophisticated clinical judgment, in real time, every minute your child is in therapy.
Fidelity Isn't a Buzzword — It's the Difference Between Progress and Plateau
In behavioral science, procedural fidelity is how precisely you execute a therapy plan. How you execute a therapy plan matters... A LOT. A perfectly written therapy plan does your family no good if implementation is misaligned. When fidelity slips, so does progress: research links low-fidelity ABA delivery to slower gains in communication and social skills, and even increases in challenging behavior (Max & Lambright, 2022).
Large caseloads, rushed check-ins, and under-resourced staff make fidelity a constant uphill battle in traditional settings. Corporate ABA companies often market regular coaching and stellar supervision, but how stellar can a coach be if they only see your child for 1 hour in the month? Most entry-level staff often plateau at just moderate accuracy (Max & Lambright, 2022). Moderate accuracy is simply not good enough in Silicon Valley, not even close!
When a seasoned BCBA delivers therapy directly after learning your child, it should start to flow, and you should see a healthy dynamic between your child and the practitioner. BCBAs have years (not weeks) of practice with proven methods like Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Natural Environment Teaching (NET). With this expertise, fidelity stays exceptionally high. The possible result: rapid skill mastery in language, adaptive living, and social navigation, with clients retaining a larger percentage of the skills gained at follow-up (Behavior Analysis in Practice, 2022).

The Skills You Can't Put on a Training Checklist
Great therapy isn't just protocol execution; it's connection. Behavior analytic competencies break down into "hard skills" (functional assessments, protocol design) and "soft skills" (empathy, flexibility, communication, real-time problem solving) (Kodak et al., 2023).
Parents consistently rank empathy, compassion, and active listening among the most important qualities in a behavior analyst (Kodak et al., 2023), yet these are exactly the skills entry-level technicians struggle most to develop (Kodak et al., 2023). In fact, because their training is a 40-hour course, they don’t even have time to teach soft skills. When it comes to your child, do you want therapy to be with someone with a minimum of 2,000 supervised hours, or someone with 40 non-supervised hours?
The cold, hard truth is that a Master's-level clinician brings the emotional maturity to navigate complex family dynamics with nuance: adjusting strategies on the fly, communicating with total transparency, and building the kind of trust that lets a child thrive—not just comply. Furthermore, they can explain things in simpler terms without relying on strict jargon in everyday conversations.
"Private" Doesn't Mean Out of Reach
Let’s set something straight. One of the biggest misconceptions we hear: "Isn't private ABA impossible to get covered?" Not true, and in fact, if a corporate ABA company is the one who told you this, they are likely trying to get you to start services with them. The corporate strategy always prioritizes money, not your child. Federal authorities and insurance payors recognize ABA as a medically necessary, evidence-based intervention (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2020; Behavior Analysis in Practice, 2022).
Private practices and consulting firms like ours operate outside restrictive in-network contracts specifically to protect small caseloads and clinical quality — but that doesn't mean you're on your own financially. Through out-of-network reimbursement, we provide detailed superbills that you submit directly to your insurance carrier for reimbursement under your plan's out-of-network behavioral health benefits. In some cases, we can also submit the superbill for you. The point is that you get elite, private care if your insurance plan allows out-of-network providers to deliver your service.
Therapy That Moves at the Speed of Your Life
Silicon Valley families don't run on a 9-to-5 clock, and your child's care shouldn't be limited by one either. Research confirms that direct ABA delivered through HIPAA-compliant telehealth is just as effective as in-person care (Behavior Analysis in Practice, 2022) — with treatment integrity rates exceeding 97% and significant mastery gains across language, functional skills, and social navigation. Of course, this is contingent on telehealth being fit for the individual case in which it's being employed.
Telehealth mixed with in-person services at a healthy ratio is perfect for busy Silicon Valley families grinding to put food on the table. With a private BCBA, you can collaborate to craft a convenient model that helps you and your family get the services you need.
Private BCBAs will save you time, and no currency can match the value of time.
Your Child's Progress Shouldn't Be a Gamble
You already know what happens when expertise gets diluted by scale; it’s like playing blackjack at the casino where you beat the dealer on some hands, but they always seem to win a bit more than you, slowly eating your balance of cash. Your child’s development doesn't have time for Las Vegas casino games; they deserve better than a revolving door of undertrained staff and stretched-thin oversight.
At BlackRock Behavior Group, you get direct, uninterrupted access to a Master's-level BCBA — the same expert, every session, fully invested in your child's growth.
